WELCOME TO THE ROTARY CLUB OF
WHARTON & MINE HILL !!!
This year’s Rotary Goal – Let's help change the world – helping our community, helping our young people to go to Collage to be educated and encourage them to make the difference and change the world. This is our main objective this year. We want to grow up as a non-profit organization and go to the next level. The fact is that every day more than 26,000 children under the age of five die from preventable causes. The Wharton-Mine Hill Rotary Club along with more than 36,000 Rotary Clubs and 1.2 million Rotarians around the world, has made a commitment to Make Dreams Real for the Worlds Children by Making a Difference Every Day.
Our local programs support: Scholarships for graduated High School students from Dover, Mine Hill, Rockaway, Jefferson, and Morris Catolic HS in Denville, Dictionary Project for 3rd grade students in Wharton and Mine Hill and more. While our international programs support clean water for the children of Uganda in partnership with Call to Care, medical services for Haitian children through our partnership with the Haitian Health Foundation, supply of food and water for needy children in South Africa, and this spring our work to bring clean water and library books to six schools and a medical clinic in the northeast remote area of the Dominican Republic in partnership with the United States Southern Command and much, much more.
So, join us! Take time out of your busy schedule and learn how you can help change the world with us in the Wharton & Mine Hill communities. We meet every Friday at 12:15 pm for lunch at Scerbo’s Italian Restaurant on 47 Kossuth St., Wharton, NJ 07885. We look forward to your visit.
Yours in Rotary,
Susan Boleen
President 2010/2011

In Rotary we help those that need help. We are taking baby steps into educating our future generations to make the world a better place.
International:
-Rotary International is the world’s first service organization – formed in 1905.
-It is one of the world’s largest service organizations with 1.2 million members belonging to nearly 33,000 Clubs in more than 200 countries. Its motto is Service Above Self.
-Its Ambassadorial Scholarship program is the world’s largest, privately funded scholarship program. Each year, it provides approximately 800 scholarships internationally – with each scholarship at $24,000 – nearly $20 million.
-It is focused on helping with Child Mortality as 10 million children die annually from preventable causes – with 4 million dying in the 1st month of birth. Of these 10 million, 1.3 million are from malaria. Last year, Rotary provided 1.1 million bed nets to Africa to help, estimated to prevent nearly 700,000 premature deaths.
-It helps with Disaster Relief efforts as it created a Shelter Box program that provides shelter, blankets, tools, nets and many other disaster relief equipment for up to 10 people for a minimum of 6 months. Since 2001, more than 500,000 Shelter Boxes have been distributed in more than 40 countries – including the U.S. In addition, Rotary’s Shelter Box Response Team was the first and only group to get to the most devastated area in Myanmar after its recent cyclone devastation.

-And of course, there is Polio. Rotary is responsible for helping eradicate polio worldwide – and it is succeeding. Since 1988, polio cases worldwide have been reduced from 350,000 to less than 2,000 – a 99% reduction.
-Bill Gates believes so much in eradicating Polio that through his Foundation, he recently donated a $100 million challenge grant to Rotary International.
